FIRST Lego League:

FLL (FIRST LEGO League) is a global program that is geared towards younger students. Children must be between the ages of 9 and 16 (or 9 and 14 in the US). FLL bases its challenges on current scientific and technological problems in order to interest students in scientific research. FLL shares the common FIRST ideals and values with all other FIRST programs.

There are two parts to the competition each year: the project and the robot game. Students work in groups of three to ten, with at least one adult coach. Teams have 8 weeks to analyze and research a problem and a solution to that problem, and to build a lego robot that will run by itself for 2 minutes 30 seconds to accomplish a specific task.

At the FLL competitions, referees monitor and score the games and judges judge the team's presentations. All FLL events are filled with music and excitement to celebrate all of the hard work the teams have done over the previous 8 weeks.
