Our main goal with our robot is to act as a defender/midfielder. We use our high-torque tank treads to push around other robots, and have a long-distance kicker and a short-range puncher to hit the balls.

The Kicker:

Our robot uses an elegant linkage system with two bars and a gear to kick the ball across the field. A window motor spins a large gear. On one end of the gear, there is a knob that catches the first bar while it spins and stops it from rotating, pulling back the second bar and tensioning the surgical tubing. After a certain critical point is reached, the tubing shoots the boot forward, kicking the ball, and the gear resets to its original position.

The Drive Train:

The robot uses a unique drive train for this year. Our drive train consists of huge tank treads which are made out of chain and bits of evenly cut rubber hose for traction.
