Our Robot

Past Robots

Year: 2009

Name: Karel-Lyn

2009 robot picture

This robot was designed to be highly functional on low-friction surfaces, while also being as accurate as possible with its shooter device. The name Karel-Lyn was voted upon in the early part of the season. It combined the words Karel and Lyn; Karel being the name of a computer programming language which our mentor, Mrs. Booton, uses to teach her students, Lyn being the Finnish word for lightning, and Karel-lyn being an imitation of Mrs. Booton's first name, Carolyn.

The Turret

Our turret was designed to maximize our accuracy when shooting. A window motor rotated it while a sensor detected how far the turret rotated. A window brush powered by a Fisher-Price motor shot the balls out at a high velocity

The Drive Train

To increase maneuverability on the low-friction Regolith, our drivetrain utilized two steering modules in the front to allow maximum control.
