Mission Statement:

The Blue Lightning FIRST team was formed to promote science, technology, and engineering in the Fairport School District. With the guidance of mentors, we will build robots to compete in FIRST robotic competitions at a national level.

Objectives:

Objective 1
Build Knowledge

Our first objective is to build a robot that the team will know inside and out, built from the collective efforts of the students, engineers, technicians, and marketing professionals.

Objective 2
Working with others

Our second objective is for our team members to work with each other well and stay motivated. The team needs to work together to complete our tasks before the specific deadline. Sometimes this means staying later than originally planned on a given day to help out more. This is important as an adult in the workplace.

Objective 3
Inspire Innovations

Team members come up with new and unique ideas for the robot(s) each year. The team collectively decides how to modify and add to the robot(s), which helps determine how well the design will work in competition.

Objective 4
Build Self Confidence

Throughout the "build season" it's important to improve self-confidence; each team member is required to speak up and contribute his or her personal ideas.

FIRST designs accessible and innovative programs that build not only interest and skills in science and technology, but also self-confidence, leadership skills and life skills.
