Boston is one of the great american cities. It's home to big colleges such as Boston University and MIT. In the American Revolutionary war, Boston was well known for a number of different events such as the Boston Tea Party. Today it is a huge city with big skyscrappers in the skyline.
Because of financial support from sponsors we have been able to go to Boston. We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. Thanks for the discount!

Team 578 at the Boston Regional
The Boston FIRST competition has come to a end and the entire Fairport team had one great time. The following is a email sent out to us from a mentor of our's - Mr.D.
What a "wicked-awesome" (New England speak) weekend Team 578 had in
Boston. We were privileged to attend the Inaugural Boston FIRST Regional
Robotics Competition and the team did great! I was proud to be part of
the NY contingent attending the Boston Competition. Not only did our
team perform well in the competition but displayed gracious
professionalism at all times! So many wonderful things happened in
Boston that it's hard to tell all the stories so I will try to
summarize:
- Team 578 finished 13th overall out of 44 teams. We were
selected in the 7th round of alliance selections for the Quarter-Finals
and our alliance tied for 3rd place in the Semi-Final round! A great
showing for a great team!!
- KG3 performed fantastically under some pretty tough
competition!
- The Pit Crew once again did an exceptional job keeping KG3
running throughout the 3 days! Batteries were always fully charged,
screws tightened, repairs made and everything ran smoothly.
- Our Drive Team was again top-notch! Shooting, blocking and
climbing were all performed with great skill and daring!
- The Scouting Team did an exceptional job from their perch in
the "Crows nest"! Scouting at this competition was performed with the
help of many team members and technical support from STAMP. Team 578
utilized this tool to assess the other teams strengths and weaknesses to
come up with solid alliance selection criteria! Superb job guys!
- Team 578 did a great job working with alliance partners. We
were able to convey and share information that resulted in our being
chosen in the first round of alliance selections and making it to the
semi-finals! This shows how other teams recognized the strengths of our
team as well as our robot!
- Team Spirit was unbelievable!! Blue hair, spiked hair,
mascots, pom-poms, blue lights, 5-7-8 signs, capes, head gear, a
bazillion buttons, bracelets, dancing, cheering, screaming (my throat
is still sore)!
- And how about the "Website Award"!! That's 2 awards this year
won by our "student driven" team. It really is rewarding to see all your
efforts recognized by FIRST! You guys are "wicked-awesome"!
Congratulations to the Web Site Design Team of Larry, Jordan, Greg and
Caitlin.
- I want to take a moment to acknowledge Team 1511, Rolling
Thunder, from Penfield NY. They were an awesome competitor in the
quarter finals but after they were eliminated by our alliance they came
to our section of the stands to cheer on a fellow NY team. That is what
gracious professionalism and FIRST is all about! Kudos to Team 1511!!
You guys are great!
- We got to shake Woodie Flowers hand!
- Team 578 got to learn a little more about Boston as we walked
through Copley Square after our bus experienced some technical
difficulties!
- We then got to experience the Massachusetts Bay Transit
Authority by riding the "T" back to BU and then walking back to the
hotel over the Charles River!
- Team 578 sponsored a LAN party at the hotel attended by
several other teams!
- We learned about some things you can do and some things you
can't do with duct tape! (Long Story)
- I want to take a moment to thank the Mentors who came along on
this trip. With out their help and commitment the Team could not
function. Thanks to Mr. Breese and Ms. Kraus for handling the
teacher-student details: Thanks Mr. Domanti for coaching the Drive Team
and Pit Crew: Thanks to Mike Walker for his guidance with the
Engineering Team: Thanks to Mr. Young for his work with the Pit Crew:
Thanks to Mrs. Creedon for her leading the Spirit efforts (I never knew
she could yell so loud!): Thanks to Mr.. Bartyzel and Mr. Noakes for
volunteering to help at the Boston Regional: Thanks to Mrs. Domanti for
arranging the Bus: and thanks to everyone else who came to support the
team.
