Fundraising:
Fundraising is an important part of team. With a team so large, it’s crucial that all members pitch in to help with several of the Fundraising activities that we currently have. Some examples of such events include:
Chalk Raiders: For several years now we have done a fundraiser event called Chalk Raiders. In our community we go around spraying our school district’s logo (a Fairport Raider) on driveways with red chalk that lasts about 8 months. It has been one of our biggest and most popular fundraising events- we have sprayed hundreds of Chalk Raiders in the past several years! Not only does it support our school district and the Robotics team, but it is something that the community knows us for. We hope to continue this tradition for many years to come. 🙂
Can Kings: Throughout the year, members of the team and/or community may bring their cash-refundable recyclables to Can Kings (1276 Fairport Rd, Fairport, NY 14450) and donate the proceeds to Fairport FIRST® Robotics Team 578 by stating so at the counter.
Schools:
Within our schools, we are working to spread the word of FIRST! We do this by actively participating in numerous demos, creating posters, making announcements, hosting spirit days, and printing advertisements in the school newspaper and being active in our two engineering clubs at two of our district’s elementary schools.
In the future, we hope to add to our list of school events by giving various teachers awards that we feel made a difference in student’s lives, particularly those in Science and Technology. We also hope to do more mentoring in our Lego league club and start another Engineering club at a third Elementary school within our district. Within a few years we hope to have started one at all three elementary schools.
