Safety

It's always important for FIRST team members to know about safety when they're working on their robots. In the United States there are at least 3.6 million people that get injured in home workshops each year. You probably don't want to be one of those people, so that's why we felt it was important to have a web page on our site devoted to preventing injuries from happening.

Safety Equipment:

  • First Aid Kit
  • Safety Glasses
  • Caution Tape
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Broom

Safety Tips:

  • Seal Paint Containers Tightly
  • Do not overload extension cords
  • Organize your workspace neatly to make things easier to find in case of an emergency
  • Do not leave items out in the open - people can trip over them.
  • Lift with your legs not your back.
  • Keep electrical and sharp tools out of the reach of children that may visit your work space.
  • Do not work with the power tools alone without adult supervision.
  • Give yourself room when working.
  • Disconnect Power tools when you are not using them.
  • When transporting the robot, make sure you make room and warn people when you are transporting the robot through a crowded area.
  • Make sure your work space is well ventilated.
  • Don't use power tools in wet places.
  • If the tool comes with a lock make sure you lock it when you are done using it.
  • Keep your workplace well lit.
  • Make sure you have multiple people to help you when lifting heavy items.
  • Wear ear plugs when using loud power tools.
  • Do not run around the workshop.
